Course Overview
The 2025 Vascular Technology Education Program (VTEP) is a comprehensive course designed for diagnostic medical sonographers and vascular technologists seeking mastery in all areas of vascular ultrasound. This course provides structured, in-depth training to support credentialing preparation, clinical excellence, and compliance with accreditation standards. Built around real-world vascular lab protocols, physiology, and diagnostic criteria, VTEP equips learners with the skills and knowledge needed for success in clinical practice or on RVT/RVS credentialing exams. The curriculum includes extensive instruction on the venous system, including lower extremity anatomy and physiology, patency evaluation, reflux testing, and chronic venous insufficiency. Arterial system modules address upper and lower extremity imaging, aortoiliac evaluation, and segmental pressure and pulse volume recording (PVR) interpretation. Cerebrovascular training covers carotid duplex scanning and transcranial Doppler (TCD) ultrasound. Additional modules focus on abdominal and organ-specific vascular imaging, including renal artery duplex for native and transplant kidneys, and evaluation of the hepatoportal and splanchnic circulation. The course also includes detailed instruction on hemodialysis access mapping and surveillance. Foundational concepts are reinforced through modules on vascular ultrasound physics, instrumentation, and ergonomics, ensuring learners develop both technical precision and sustainable scanning practices.
Course Objectives
Master vascular anatomy, flow dynamics, and scanning protocols across all vascular beds.
Accurately apply velocity criteria and waveform interpretation for disease classification.
Perform IAC compliant protocols and documentation for all major vascular exams.
Prepare confidently for RVT, RVS, or other vascular credentialing exams.
Reduce injury risk and improve scanning longevity with ergonomic best practices.
Target Audience
Registered or credentialing technologists expanding their vascular skillset.
Students, new grads, or technologists cross training in vascular ultrasound.
